Compliance Corner - NACHA Updates

Below are two upcoming changes from Nacha for International ACH Transactions (IAT). Make sure to read our latest The PATH to Success newsletter to learn more about how PATH can help you stay compliant with these changes.

Definition of IAT Entries

Effective date: September 18, 2026.

This update provides exact criteria for identifying international transactions. It states that an IAT entry is “the U.S. ACH component of an international payment transaction.” This includes any transfer of funds that originates through a financial institution located outside the United States or is received from a sender via a financial institution outside the United States. It also states that an IAT cannot be a same day entry.

Registration of IAT Contacts in the ACH Registry

Effective date: January 1, 2027

This requires financial institutions to register contact information for personnel responsible for handling IAT entries. Financial institutions must have at least one primary and one secondary contact with their name, title, email address, and phone number OR department level contact information which would include an email address and phone number that is monitored during normal business hours. Financial institutions must update any changes within 45 days and conduct an annual verification review.
